'My boy builds Coffins' - Florence and the Machine
What is the genre of the track? How can you tell?
I think the genre of the track is alternative as the characteristics fit in with those that The New York Times used to dercibe this genre. The New York times stated that the alternative genre is 'guitar music first of all, with guitars that blast out power chords, pick out chiming riffs, buzz with fuzztone and squeal in feedback'. The use of guitars and power chords are evident in the track and that is why I think it best fits into this genre.
Do you think this track represents a high or lo fi video? Why
I think the track represents both lo fi and high fi. In regards to high fi, the track has special effects added to make an echo in the background and therefore could lend itself to some type of hi tech video by using a performance and special lighting effects. However, the overall tempo of the sound is more reminiscent of lo fi use both methods in our video.
What videos would be comparable?
Florence + the machine - 'Dog Days are over'The flamboyant eye make up is a characteristic of most Florence videos so it is important that we use this technique in our music video.
The use of a location of the woods, is used in Ellie Goulding's video for 'Guns and Horses'. This location is one that I put on my mood board and is one I think we should consider.Give an outline of a treatment
A possible treatment for our music video would be to have the lead character singing in a field/woods decorated with bunting/bird cages/lanterns/balloons. I think that we could also have some type of narrative such as a boy building coffins in a graveyard to break up the performance.
Identify suitable locations for filming particular sequences of the music.
One idea for a possible location that has been suggested is the woods. We like this idea as we feel it fits in with the 'organic' sound of the song and it would be practical for us to use. To make it more visually interesting we would decorate the trees with balloons, lanterns and bunting, also due to it being autumn when we plan to film we hope to use the fallen leaves as props.
Consider grain of voice. What characters would you use?
The character we are considering for our video has previously performed a Florence + the machine song at the school's stars in their eyes. For this reason we consider her to be the right character for or music video as she understands the manerisms and grain of voice that Florence has.
What pro-filmic and post-production special affects would be suitable?
One post-production special effect that I think would be suitable is to increase the brightness and contrast. This would mean the video would look brighter, which is something we may not be able to achieve with our lack of lighting.
Who else would you need to 'employ' to help you with this production?
We would only need to employ the person who will do the performance in the music video. So far there have not been any more discussions on involving anyone else, however this may be something we need to discuss further.
I think the decoration of woods is something we have definitely all thought of. So we should definitely try to do that, but I think we should make it our own and not simply copy the Dog Days video.
